Hippocampus Reading Foundation, started in 2004, to inspire children to want to read more. Started by professionals from the IT industry, they were looking to reach out to children and inspire them to read. Starting with working in Bangalore, their programs were replicated nationwide and by 2010, their program GROWBY Reading was working in more than 5 countries around the world. By 2011, the foundation expanded its work into preschools. They also worked with MIT-JPAL to conduct a randomised evaluation of a high-quality preschool program amongst children in rural communities. This evaluation is one of the first such studies on preschoolers in South and Southeast Asia. In 2019, the foundation has expanded to support affordable private schools to improve the quality of infrastructure and learning.
